Casey Martin is an artist based in Lavonia, in northeast Georgia. They make and value art that is inclusive and interactive with a special focus in the tools and processes of skilled tradespeople. Specifically, that the hands behind everyday craftsmanship deserve to be seen and named. 

Martin's practice is collaborative by design. Rather than imitate trades they haven't trained in, they assemble local tradespeople — woodworkers, photographers, machinists, upholsterers, audio engineers — and build around their skill, paying each at a fair wage that they establish for themselves and crediting each by name. The method is part of the meaning: work about the dignity of labor that refuses to cut corners on the laborers.
 

Their sculptures ask to be met by more than one sense — contrast of texture, shape color, and sound — and nothing in them is decoration for its own sake. Each material is chosen to carry an idea: transformation and interaction. The work is made to be experienced as fully by a visitor who cannot see, or cannot hear, as by anyone else.

Casey Martin is a self-taught creative who, as a first-generation college graduate, earned a BA in Psychology and Art in their thirties.
 

Martin lives and works in Lavonia, where they are currently at work on *Heartwood*, a series of cedar sculptures built entirely by named local tradespeople in their community.
